1974 Matchbox Rolamatics Badger Exploration Truck

The Matchbox Badger Exploration Truck was first cast in 1974 and was released in about 12 different variations. This six-wheeled communications truck is from the Rolamatics series – models with working parts driven by the rolling wheels. In this case, the radar dish rotates as the truck moves. This beautiful metallic orange-red example with green windows and ivory radar is another eBay score from the collection of the Crafter’s Son, which includes several nice examples of Matchbox Rolamatics.

Other Matchbox Rolamatics in my collection include the 1973 Mustang Piston Popper from my childhood, the 1974 Weasel Armored Vehicle and the 1975 Range Rover Police.

In the photo below, you can see the Rolamatics logo on the base. Notice, at the top center of the photo, cast into the wheel is the pin which drives the internal mechanism which in turn rotates the radar dish.

In the photo below, just above and behind the wheel in the center of the image, you can make out the mechanism which drives the rotating radar dish.

    1. Hi Jim, I just watched your video. The Turbo Fury is a fun casting that I was not familiar with. It looks like a modification of the Blue Shark, which is a real classic. Thanks for the comment!
